A bill for an act
relating to veterans; appropriating money for ombudsman position at certain
veterans homes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

new text begin $80,366 in fiscal year 2010 and $80,366 in fiscal year 2011 are appropriated from the
general fund to the commissioner of veterans affairs to contract with the Minnesota Board
on Aging to provide a half-time ombudsman position through the Office of Ombudsman
for Long-Term Care to serve residents and family members at the Minneapolis and
Hastings veterans homes. The assigned ombudsman shall have a private office space
available at each veterans home. The ombudsman shall meet on a regular basis with
the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs staff administering the veterans homes
to review the types of concerns brought to the attention of the ombudsman and work
collaboratively to resolve them.
