  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to energy assistance; providing funding for 
  1.3             various energy assistance programs; appropriating 
  1.4             money. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [ENERGY ASSISTANCE; APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.7      (a) $28,000,000 is appropriated to the commissioner of 
  1.8   children, families, and learning from the general fund for the 
  1.9   biennium ending June 30, 1999. 
  1.10     (b) $10,000,000 of this appropriation is for the energy 
  1.11  assistance program under Minnesota Statutes, sections 4.071 and 
  1.12  268.371. 
  1.13     (c) $10,000,000 of this appropriation is for the 
  1.14  weatherization program under Minnesota Statutes, section 268.37. 
  1.15     (d) $8,000,000 is for an emergency contingency fund for 
  1.16  residential heating assistance.  The contingency funds shall be 
  1.17  released at the discretion of the governor if the governor 
  1.18  determines that cold weather, along with other factors, has 
  1.19  caused a need for additional residential heating assistance.
