  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to retirement; providing a service credit 
  1.3             purchase deadline extension for certain members of the 
  1.4             teachers retirement association. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 277, WESTONKA; 
  1.7   TEACHER RETIREMENT COVERAGE PROGRAM DEADLINE EXTENSION.] 
  1.8      (a) Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 354.66, the 
  1.9   teachers retirement association must accept the application for 
  1.10  full-time retirement coverage filed by independent school 
  1.11  district No. 277, Westonka, on or about June 10, 1996, for a 
  1.12  person who: 
  1.13     (1) was born on June 29, 1947; 
  1.14     (2) was initially hired by the school district in 1969; and 
  1.15     (3) was on eligible leave of absence January 29, 1996, 
  1.16  through June 7, 1996. 
  1.17     A person who meets the requirements of clauses (1) to (3) 
  1.18  is entitled to full-time teacher retirement association coverage 
  1.19  under Minnesota Statutes, section 354.66, for the 1995-1996 
  1.20  school year if all other conditions of that section are met 
  1.21  beyond the failure of the school district to timely file the 
  1.22  application. 
  1.23     (b) Independent school district No. 277, Westonka, shall 
  1.24  pay additional employer contributions and employee contributions 
  1.25  under Minnesota Statutes, section 354.42, subdivisions 3 and 5, 
  2.1   on the person's salary during their leave, plus interest at the 
  2.2   rate of 8.5 percent. 
  2.3      (c) The payments under paragraph (b) must be made in a lump 
  2.4   sum to the teachers retirement association before June 30, 
  2.5   1997.  If payment is made earlier than June 30, 1997, interest 
  2.6   must be calculated to the end of the month in which payment is 
  2.7   made. 
  2.8      Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.9      Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
