  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to civil actions; regulating liability on 
  1.3             land used for recreational purposes; modifying the 
  1.4             definition of recreational purpose; amending Minnesota 
  1.5             Statutes 2002, section 604A.21, subdivision 5. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 604A.21, 
  1.8   subdivision 5, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 5.  [RECREATIONAL PURPOSE.] "Recreational purpose" 
  1.10  includes, but is not limited to, hunting; trapping; fishing; 
  1.11  swimming; boating; camping; picnicking; hiking; rock climbing; 
  1.12  exploring caves; bicycling; horseback riding; firewood 
  1.13  gathering; pleasure driving, including snowmobiling and the 
  1.14  operation of any motorized vehicle or conveyance upon a road or 
  1.15  upon or across land in any manner, including recreational trail 
  1.16  use; nature study; water skiing; winter sports; and viewing or 
  1.17  enjoying historical, archaeological, scenic, or scientific sites.
  1.18     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE; APPLICATION.] 
  1.19     Section 1 is effective August 1, 2004, and applies to 
  1.20  causes of action arising on or after that date.
