  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to education; postponing the school start 
  1.3             date for the 2004-2005 school year only. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [2004-2005 SCHOOL YEAR START DATE.] 
  1.6      Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 120A.40, for 
  1.7   the 2004-2005 school year only, a school district must not 
  1.8   commence an elementary or secondary school before the first 
  1.9   Tuesday after Labor Day in September. 
  1.10     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective the day 
  1.11  following final enactment and applies to the 2004-2005 school 
  1.12  year only.
