A bill for an act
relating to education; requiring student identification cards to include a mental
health crisis telephone number; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes,
chapter 121A.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin (a) A school district or charter school that issues student identification cards to students
in middle school or high school must include the telephone number for the National Suicide
Prevention Lifeline, a crisis text line, or when available, the national 988 telephone number
on the card, unless doing so would require an additional expenditure by the district or charter
school.

new text begin (b) A nonpublic school is encouraged to issue student identification cards consistent
with paragraph (a).
