  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to veterans; expanding the definition of 
  1.3             lawful purpose of lawful gambling to include payment 
  1.4             for expenses of sending certain veterans to National 
  1.5             World War II Memorial dedication events. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [LAWFUL PURPOSE.] 
  1.8      Notwithstanding the definition of "lawful purpose" in 
  1.9   Minnesota Statutes, section 349.12, subdivision 25, it is a 
  1.10  lawful purpose of lawful gambling conducted by a licensed 
  1.11  veterans organization to pay up to $1,500 per person to send up 
  1.12  to two World War II veterans per local veterans organization to 
  1.13  Washington D.C., for the dedication events of the National World 
  1.14  War II Memorial on May 27 to May 30, 2004.  No licensed veterans 
  1.15  organization may spend more than $6,000 under authority of this 
  1.16  section. 
  1.17     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.18     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
