  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to drivers' licenses; expanding grounds for 
  1.3             canceling school bus driver's endorsement; amending 
  1.4             Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 171.3216.  
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 171.3216, is 
  1.7   amended to read: 
  1.8      171.3216 [ACTIONS ON SCHOOL BUS ENDORSEMENT.] 
  1.9      In addition to any authority granted under section 
  1.10  171.3215, the commissioner may cancel a school bus driver's 
  1.11  endorsement on a driver's license of any person if the 
  1.12  commissioner determines that the person has (1) been convicted 
  1.13  of a gross misdemeanor that the commissioner determines shows 
  1.14  evidence that the person represents a risk to public safety, (2) 
  1.15  been convicted of a violation of chapter 169 that the 
  1.16  commissioner determines demonstrates an inability to safely 
  1.17  operate a motor vehicle, or (2) (3) been convicted of a series 
  1.18  of violations of law that the commissioner determines shows 
  1.19  evidence that the person represents a risk to public safety.  
  1.20  Upon canceling the offender's school bus driver's endorsement, 
  1.21  the commissioner shall immediately notify the offender of the 
  1.22  cancellation in writing, by depositing in the United States Post 
  1.23  Office a notice, with postage prepaid, to the offender addressed 
  1.24  to the offender's last known address.
