  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to transit; appropriating money to the 
  1.3             metropolitan council for metropolitan transit 
  1.4             operating and capital assistance; appropriating money 
  1.5             to the commissioner of transportation for commuter 
  1.6             rail projects and greater Minnesota transit operating 
  1.7             and capital assistance.  
  1.8   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.9      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATIONS; METROPOLITAN COUNCIL TRANSIT.] 
  1.10     Subdivision 1.  [METROPOLITAN TRANSIT OPERATIONS AND 
  1.11  FACILITIES.] $131,101,000 in fiscal year 2002 and $131,101,000 
  1.12  in fiscal year 2003 are appropriated from the general fund to 
  1.13  the metropolitan council.  Of this appropriation: 
  1.14     (1) $86,101,000 in fiscal year 2002 and $86,101,000 in 
  1.15  fiscal year 2003 are for transit operations in the metropolitan 
  1.16  area; and 
  1.17     (2) $45,000,000 in fiscal year 2002 and $45,000,000 in 
  1.18  fiscal year 2003 are for transit facilities and equipment. 
  1.19     Subd. 2.  [BUS WAYS.] $30,000,000 is appropriated from the 
  1.20  general fund to the metropolitan council for metropolitan area 
  1.21  bus ways. 
  1.22     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION; COMMUTER RAIL.] 
  1.23     $20,000,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.24  commissioner of transportation for planning, preliminary 
  1.25  engineering, final design, environmental studies, right-of-way 
  1.26  acquisition, and construction of commuter rail facilities 
  2.1   consistent with the commissioner's commuter rail plan under 
  2.2   Minnesota Statutes, sections 174.80 to 174.90. 
  2.3      Sec. 3.  [APPROPRIATION; GREATER MINNESOTA TRANSIT 
  2.4   ASSISTANCE.] 
  2.5      $37,368,000 in fiscal year 2002 and $37,368,000 in fiscal 
  2.6   year 2003 are appropriated from the general fund to the 
  2.7   commissioner of transportation for assistance to transit in 
  2.8   greater Minnesota.  Of this appropriation: 
  2.9      (1) $31,368,000 in fiscal year 2002 and $31,368,000 in 
  2.10  fiscal year 2003 are for operating assistance under Minnesota 
  2.11  Statutes, section 174.24; and 
  2.12     (2) $6,000,000 in fiscal year 2002 and $6,000,000 in fiscal 
  2.13  year 2003 are for assistance to greater Minnesota transit 
  2.14  systems for facilities and equipment.
