  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to game and fish; permitting youth residents 
  1.3             to hunt deer without a license tag; amending Minnesota 
  1.4             Statutes 1996, section 97A.485, by adding a 
  1.5             subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 97A.485, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 12.  [YOUTH DEER LICENSE.] The commissioner may, for 
  1.10  a fee of $5, issue to a resident under the age of 16 a license, 
  1.11  without a tag, to take deer with firearms.  A youth holding a 
  1.12  license issued under this subdivision may hunt under the license 
  1.13  only if accompanied by a licensed hunter who is at least 18 
  1.14  years of age and possesses a valid tag.  A deer taken by a youth 
  1.15  holding a license issued under this subdivision must be promptly 
  1.16  tagged by the licensed hunter accompanying the youth.  Section 
  1.17  97B.301, subdivision 6, does not apply to a youth holding a 
  1.18  license issued under this subdivision.
