  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to health; appropriating money for the 
  1.3             distribution of information on Down Syndrome. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.6      $....... is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.7   commissioner of health for a grant to a nonprofit organization 
  1.8   that provides support to individuals with Down Syndrome and 
  1.9   their families, for the purpose of providing all obstetricians, 
  1.10  midwives, and family physicians licensed to practice in this 
  1.11  state with informational packets on Down Syndrome.  The packets 
  1.12  must include, at a minimum, a fact sheet on Down Syndrome, a 
  1.13  list of counseling and support groups for families with children 
  1.14  with Down Syndrome, and a list of special needs adoption 
  1.15  resources.  The informational packets must be made available to 
  1.16  any pregnant patient who has tested positive for Down Syndrome, 
  1.17  either through a screening test or amniocentesis.  The 
  1.18  appropriation is available until June 30, 1999.
