  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to firearms; requiring persons carrying 
  1.3             firearms to obtain permission from possessors of 
  1.4             private residences before entry; providing penalties; 
  1.5             amending Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 624.714, by 
  1.6             adding a subdivision. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 624.714, is 
  1.9   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 24.  [PRIVATE RESIDENCES; TRESPASS.] A person 
  1.11  carrying or possessing a firearm on or about his or her person 
  1.12  or body must obtain permission from the lawful possessor of a 
  1.13  private residence before entering the residence.  A violation of 
  1.14  this subdivision is a misdemeanor.  This subdivision does not 
  1.15  apply to a licensed peace officer. 
  1.16     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.17     Section 1 is effective August 1, 2003, and applies to 
  1.18  crimes committed on or after that date.
