A bill for an act
relating to higher education; appropriating money to the Board of Regents of the
University of Minnesota to support the Vibrant Communities initiative.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA VIBRANT
COMMUNITIES INITIATIVE.

new text begin $3,500,000 in fiscal year 2016 and $9,000,000 in fiscal year 2017 are appropriated
from the general fund to the Board of Regents of the University of Minnesota for
academic research and the development of public-private partnerships to address critical
issues facing communities and vital industries in the state including, but not limited to,
the study of economic and environmental sustainability issues related to mining and the
health, safety, economic, and environmental impacts of mines.
