  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to public safety; appropriating money for 
  1.3             grants for violence prevention councils. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.6      Subdivision 1.  [DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY.] The sums 
  1.7   indicated in this section are appropriated from the general fund 
  1.8   to the commissioner of public safety for transfer to the 
  1.9   commissioner of education for the fiscal years designated. 
  1.10     Subd. 2.  [VIOLENCE PREVENTION COUNCILS.] (a) For grants to 
  1.11  cities, counties, and school boards for community violence 
  1.12  prevention councils: 
  1.13       $.,...,...     .....     1996 
  1.14       $.,...,...     .....     1997 
  1.15     (b) During the biennium, councils shall identify community 
  1.16  needs and resources for violence prevention and development 
  1.17  services that address community needs related to violence 
  1.18  prevention. 
  1.19     (c) Any of the funds awarded to school districts but not 
  1.20  expended in fiscal year 1996, are available to the award 
  1.21  recipient in fiscal year 1997 for the same purposes and 
  1.22  activities. 
  1.23     (d) Any portion of the 1996 appropriation not spent in 1996 
  1.24  is available in 1997. 
  2.1      (e) One hundred percent of this aid must be paid in the 
  2.2   current fiscal year in the same manner as specified in Minnesota 
  2.3   Statutes, section 124.195, subdivision 9.
