relating to transportation; appropriating money for a grant program to equip school
buses with external cameras.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

CAMERAS.

new text begin $6,000,000 in fiscal year 2020 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner
of public safety for grants to school bus operators to purchase and install external cameras
for the purpose of capturing video of stop arm violations. The commissioner may grant up
to $500 per school bus in the school bus operator's fleet. For purposes of this section, "school
bus operator" means a school district or a company that contracts with a school district to
provide school bus transportation services. This grant program must be administered by the
Office of Pupil Transportation Safety. This is a onetime appropriation. Any unexpended
funds are available in the second year.
