  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to jurors; suspending enforcement of creditor 
  1.3             remedies during a term of jury service; proposing 
  1.4             coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 593. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [593.52] [PROTECTION OF DEBTORS DURING SERVICE 
  1.7   ON JURIES; APPLICATION TO COURT.] 
  1.8      Subdivision 1.  [CREDITOR.] "Creditor" includes a general 
  1.9   creditor, a secured creditor, a lien creditor and any 
  1.10  representative of creditors, including an assignee for the 
  1.11  benefit of creditors, a trustee in bankruptcy, a receiver in 
  1.12  equity, and an executor or administrator of an insolvent 
  1.13  debtor's or assignor's estate. 
  1.14     Subd. 2.  [SUSPENSION OF CREDITOR REMEDIES.] A creditor may 
  1.15  not enforce any debt by attachment, garnishment, or other debt 
  1.16  collection remedy designed to enforce creditor rights during the 
  1.17  term of jury service by a debtor.  Upon notice that jury service 
  1.18  is required, a debtor may apply to the court for suspension of 
  1.19  enforcement of creditor obligations during the term of jury 
  1.20  service.  Upon proper proof of the jury summons and term of jury 
  1.21  service, the court shall stay any attachment, garnishment, or 
  1.22  other debt collection remedy designed to enforce creditor rights 
  1.23  until the time jury service by the debtor has been completed.
