  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to agriculture; appropriating money for 
  1.3             continuation of certain legal actions against the 
  1.4             United States Department of Agriculture and for milk 
  1.5             marketing economic research studies. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION; MARKET ORDERS LEGAL ACTION.] 
  1.8      $100,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.9   commissioner of agriculture for continuation of legal action 
  1.10  against the United States Department of Agriculture for 
  1.11  inequities in the federal milk marketing orders system.  This 
  1.12  appropriation is available for either fiscal year of the 
  1.13  biennium ending June 30, 1997. 
  1.14     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION; MILK MARKETING ECONOMIC STUDIES.] 
  1.15     $100,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.16  commissioner of agriculture for purposes of funding economic 
  1.17  research studies by the department or by the universities of 
  1.18  Minnesota and/or Wisconsin to determine the impacts on the upper 
  1.19  midwest dairy industry of reforming or eliminating the federal 
  1.20  milk marketing order system.
