A bill for an act
relating to arts and cultural heritage; appropriating money for civic education
grants.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATIONS; CIVIC EDUCATION GRANTS.

new text begin $300,000 in fiscal year 2022 and $300,000 in fiscal year 2023 are appropriated from the
arts and cultural heritage fund to the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Humanities Center
for civic education grants to the Minnesota Civic Education Coalition: YMCA Center for
Youth Voice, Youth in Government, and the Learning Law and Democracy Foundation, to
conduct civic education programs for the civic and cultural development of Minnesota
youth. Civic education is the study of the history, principles, and foundations of our
constitutional democracy and the development of skills needed to be engaged and effective
participants in today's public life. Any balance in the first year does not cancel and is available
in the second year.
