  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to the environment; requiring a report to the 
  1.3             legislature on coordination of cleanup and 
  1.4             redevelopment of contaminated properties. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [REPORT ON COORDINATION OF CLEANUP AND 
  1.7   REDEVELOPMENT OF CONTAMINATED PROPERTIES.] 
  1.8      The commissioner of the pollution control agency, in 
  1.9   consultation with the commissioners of trade and economic 
  1.10  development, commerce, agriculture, and revenue, and the 
  1.11  director of the metropolitan council, shall issue a report to 
  1.12  the legislature by January 15, 1998, which includes: 
  1.13     (1) recommendations from the agencies with regard to 
  1.14  establishing and administering an office to provide for the 
  1.15  coordination of programs providing state and regional assistance 
  1.16  in the cleanup and redevelopment of contaminated properties, as 
  1.17  well as any legislative recommendations to provide for an 
  1.18  effective and efficient office; and 
  1.19     (2) a plan for additional changes to existing contaminated 
  1.20  property programs, including the consolidation of programs, to 
  1.21  streamline applications for assistance, ensure efficient and 
  1.22  effective administration of these programs, and provide for an 
  1.23  overall, coordinated state policy for the cleanup and 
  1.24  redevelopment of contaminated properties.
