  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to the new chance program; appropriating 
  1.3             money. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [NEW CHANCE PROGRAM APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.6      $280,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.7   commissioner of human services for the biennium beginning July 
  1.8   1, 1999, for a grant to the new chance program.  The new chance 
  1.9   program shall provide comprehensive services through a private, 
  1.10  nonprofit agency to young parents in Hennepin county who have 
  1.11  dropped out of school and are receiving public assistance.  The 
  1.12  program administrator shall report annually to the commissioner 
  1.13  of human services on skills development, education, job 
  1.14  training, and job placement outcomes for program participants.
