A bill for an act
relating to cosmetology; prohibiting the use and possession of certain products;
requiring a study; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter
155A.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin No person practicing cosmetology, manicuring, or esthiology, or conducting or
operating a school or salon licensed under this chapter shall knowingly use, possess,
sell, or offer for sale a product containing a liquid nail monomer containing any trace
of methyl methacrylate (MMA).

Sec. 2. new text begin STUDY; CHEMICAL HAZARDS.

new text begin The commissioner of health, in consultation with the board of cosmetologist
examiners, shall study and report to the legislature by December 15, 2011, on the
known and potential health hazards related to chemicals and products routinely used
by cosmetologists, manicurists, and estheticians in providing services licensed under
chapter 155A.
