  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to corrections; prohibiting correctional 
  1.3             inmates from applying for name changes more than once 
  1.4             during an inmate's confinement; proposing coding for 
  1.5             new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 259. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [259.12] [CORRECTIONAL INMATES; NAME CHANGES; 
  1.8   LIMITED.] 
  1.9      During an inmate's confinement in a correctional facility, 
  1.10  as defined in section 241.021, subdivision 1, clause (5), an 
  1.11  inmate may request a name change under section 259.10 only once, 
  1.12  and may proceed in forma pauperis only when the failure to allow 
  1.13  the name change would infringe on a constitutional right of an 
  1.14  inmate.
