  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to health; creating registration for medical 
  1.3             response units; proposing coding for new law in 
  1.4             Minnesota Statutes, chapter 144E. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [144E.275] [MEDICAL RESPONSE UNIT 
  1.7   REGISTRATION.] 
  1.8      Subdivision 1.  [REGISTRATION.] The board may register a 
  1.9   medical response unit. 
  1.10     Subd. 2.  [QUALIFICATIONS.] To be registered with the 
  1.11  board, a medical response unit must: 
  1.12     (1) submit an application form prescribed by the board; 
  1.13     (2) submit a letter from the appropriate municipality, 
  1.14  township, or county governing body recognizing the medical 
  1.15  response unit as the unit in its geographical area designated to 
  1.16  respond to a medical emergency; 
  1.17     (3) be dispatched to the scene of a medical emergency on a 
  1.18  routine basis by a public safety answering point, as defined 
  1.19  under section 403.02, subdivision 5, or an ambulance service; 
  1.20     (4) have a medical director according to section 144E.265; 
  1.21  and 
  1.22     (5) be staffed by at least one first responder or one 
  1.23  emergency medical technician, as appropriate to the level of 
  1.24  care given. 
  1.25     Subd. 3.  [EXPIRATION.] The medical response unit 
  2.1   registration expires two years from the date it is issued. 
  2.2      Subd. 4.  [RENEWAL.] The board may renew the registration 
  2.3   of a medical response unit upon: 
  2.4      (1) submission, before the registration expiration date, of 
  2.5   a completed renewal application form as prescribed by the board; 
  2.6      (2) compliance with subdivision 2, clauses (2) to (5); and 
  2.7      (3) the provision of any other information as requested by 
  2.8   the board. 
  2.9      Subd. 5.  [DEFINITION.] For purposes of this section, 
  2.10  "medical response unit" means an organized service recognized by 
  2.11  a local political subdivision whose primary responsibility is to 
  2.12  respond to medical emergencies to provide initial medical care 
  2.13  before the arrival of a licensed ambulance service.
