  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to courts; conciliation court; specifying the 
  1.3             circumstances for a contempt citation for failure to 
  1.4             pay certain judgments; providing a criminal penalty 
  1.5             for failure to pay certain judgments; amending 
  1.6             Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 491A.02, by adding 
  1.7             subdivisions. 
  1.8   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.9      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 491A.02, is 
  1.10  amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.11     Subd. 10.  [CONTEMPT.] Whoever knowingly fails to pay three 
  1.12  or more conciliation court judgments, docketed in district court 
  1.13  and having a combined amount of $750 or greater, within 60 days 
  1.14  after the most recent judgment was docketed may be cited for 
  1.15  civil contempt of court. 
  1.16     Sec. 2.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 491A.02, is 
  1.17  amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.18     Subd. 11.  [PENALTY.] Whoever knowingly fails to pay three 
  1.19  or more conciliation court judgments, docketed in district court 
  1.20  and having a combined amount of $750 or greater, within 60 days 
  1.21  after the most recent judgment was docketed is guilty of a gross 
  1.22  misdemeanor. 
  1.23     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.24     Section 2 is effective August 1, 1995, and applies to 
  1.25  crimes committed on or after that date.
