  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to retirement; providing certain members of 
  1.3             the public employees retirement association police and 
  1.4             fire fund with service credit for prior military 
  1.5             service; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota 
  1.6             Statutes, chapter 353. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [353.635] [ALLOWABLE SERVICE.] 
  1.9      (a) A person who has at least 20 years of allowable service 
  1.10  in the police and fire fund shall be credited with allowable 
  1.11  service for: 
  1.12     (1) any period of full-time active duty in the armed forces 
  1.13  of the United States; and 
  1.14     (2) any period of service with the National Guard or 
  1.15  reserve military forces during which the member has been called 
  1.16  to active full-time duty and during which the person has 
  1.17  received no compensation from any employer other than the armed 
  1.18  forces. 
  1.19     (b) A person may receive service credit under paragraph (a) 
  1.20  only if: 
  1.21     (1) the person has been honorably discharged from the armed 
  1.22  forces; 
  1.23     (2) the person substantiates the period of active service 
  1.24  by presentation of a form DD214; and 
  1.25     (3) the member has not received service credit in any other 
  1.26  Minnesota public pension plan for the period of military service.
  2.1      (c) No more than four years of allowable service may be 
  2.2   obtained under this section.
