  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to natural resources; modifying tagging 
  1.3             requirements for fur-bearing animals; amending 
  1.4             Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 97B.901. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 97B.901, is 
  1.7   amended to read: 
  1.8      97B.901 [COMMISSIONER MAY REQUIRE TAGS ON REGISTRATION AND 
  1.9   TAGGING OF FUR-BEARING ANIMALS.] 
  1.10     (a) The commissioner may, by rule, require persons taking, 
  1.11  possessing, and transporting fur-bearing animals to tag the 
  1.12  animals.  The commissioner shall prescribe the manner of 
  1.13  issuance and the type of tag, which must show the year of 
  1.14  issuance.  The commissioner shall issue the tag, without a fee, 
  1.15  upon request. 
  1.16     (b) The pelt of each bobcat, fisher, pine marten, and otter 
  1.17  must be presented, by the person taking it, to a state wildlife 
  1.18  manager for registration before the pelt is sold and before the 
  1.19  pelt is transported out of the state, but in no event more than 
  1.20  48 hours after the season closes for the species.  A possession 
  1.21  or site tag is not required prior to registration of the bobcat, 
  1.22  fisher, pine marten, or otter.
