  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to summer youth employment; appropriating 
  1.3             money for learn to earn programs. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION; LEARN TO EARN.] 
  1.6      $400,000 is appropriated for the fiscal year ending June 
  1.7   30, 1998, and $400,000 is appropriated for the fiscal year 
  1.8   ending June 30, 1999, from the general fund to the commissioner 
  1.9   of economic security for the learn to earn summer youth 
  1.10  employment program established under Laws 1995, chapter 224, 
  1.11  sections 5 and 39.  Agencies in cities of the first class are 
  1.12  given priority for these grants.  These grants must be matched 
  1.13  from nonstate sources.  No single agency may receive more than 
  1.14  60 percent of the total appropriation in any year.  Grants made 
  1.15  under this section are available until spent.  Money 
  1.16  appropriated for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1998, may be 
  1.17  spent during the fiscal year ending June 30, 1997. 
  1.18     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.19     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
