  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to agriculture; requiring country of origin 
  1.3             labeling of certain food products; proposing coding 
  1.4             for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 31. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [31.1201] [COUNTRY OF ORIGIN LABELING.] 
  1.7      A retailer of a covered commodity, as defined in United 
  1.8   States Code, title 7, section 1638, must: 
  1.9      (1) label a covered commodity, as provided in United States 
  1.10  Code, title 7, sections 1638 to 1638a, in effect on October 1, 
  1.11  2003; and 
  1.12     (2) follow the guidelines for country of origin labeling of 
  1.13  a covered commodity established by the United States Department 
  1.14  of Agriculture that are in effect on October 1, 2003. 
  1.15     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.16     Section 1 is effective October 1, 2003.
