  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to metropolitan government; requiring the 
  1.3             metropolitan council to install an ethanol additive 
  1.4             system on each of its diesel-powered transit buses; 
  1.5             proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.6             chapter 473. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [473.4052] [ETHANOL ADDITIVE SYSTEM REQUIRED.] 
  1.9      The council shall install on its diesel-powered buses 
  1.10  ethanol additive systems to burn diesel fuel more cleanly and 
  1.11  efficiently.  The council shall require all diesel-powered buses 
  1.12  that it purchases to be equipped with ethanol additive systems.  
  1.13  For any diesel-powered bus not equipped with an ethanol additive 
  1.14  system, the council shall install an ethanol additive system 
  1.15  when its engine is overhauled as part of regularly scheduled 
  1.16  maintenance.  All diesel-powered buses must be equipped and 
  1.17  operated with the ethanol additive systems by January 1, 2000. 
  1.18     Sec. 2.  [APPLICATION.] 
  1.19     Section 1 applies in the counties of Anoka, Carver, Dakota, 
  1.20  Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott, and Washington. 
  1.21     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.22     Sections 1 and 2 are effective the day after final 
  1.23  enactment.
