  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; permitting school districts to 
  1.3             include attendance information on secondary student 
  1.4             transcripts; amending Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 
  1.5             120.101, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 120.101, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 5d.  [SECONDARY STUDENT TRANSCRIPTS.] A school 
  1.10  district may include information regarding a student's school 
  1.11  attendance in grades 9 through 12 on the student's transcript.  
  1.12  The transcript may include absence categories, including but not 
  1.13  limited to, excused and unexcused, and an explanation of the 
  1.14  categories used by the school district. 
  1.15     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.16     Section 1 is effective for students beginning grade 9 in 
  1.17  the 1997-1998 school year.
