  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to municipalities; authorizing city purchases 
  1.3             on credit cards; providing for personal liability for 
  1.4             city officers and employees for unauthorized credit 
  1.5             card purchases; proposing coding for new law in 
  1.6             Minnesota Statutes, chapter 471. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [471.381] [CREDIT CARDS.] 
  1.9      A city council may authorize the use of a credit card by 
  1.10  any city officer or employee otherwise authorized to make a 
  1.11  purchase on behalf of the city.  If a city officer or employee 
  1.12  makes a purchase by credit card that is not approved by the city 
  1.13  council, the officer or employee is personally liable for the 
  1.14  amount of the purchase.  A purchase by credit card must 
  1.15  otherwise comply with all statutes, rules, or city policy 
  1.16  applicable to city purchases. 
  1.17     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.18     Section 1 is effective the day following its final 
  1.19  enactment.
