  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education finance; creating a bus purchase 
  1.3             levy; amending Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 
  1.4             123B.92, by adding a subdivision.  
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 123B.92, is 
  1.7   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.8      Subd. 11.  [BUS PURCHASE LEVY.] For taxes payable in 2002 
  1.9   and later, a school district may levy up to the amount paid for 
  1.10  school buses purchased by the district during the fiscal year 
  1.11  prior to the year the levy is certified.  For taxes payable in 
  1.12  2002 only, a school district may levy up to the amount paid for 
  1.13  school buses purchased since July 1, 1998, if the district 
  1.14  submits documentation of the school bus purchases to the 
  1.15  department of children, families, and learning.  The documents 
  1.16  must be in the form and manner specified by the department of 
  1.17  children, families, and learning. 
  1.18     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective July 1, 2001.
