  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to liens; creating a lien and right of 
  1.3             detainer; amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 
  1.4             514.19. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 514.19, is 
  1.7   amended to read: 
  1.8      514.19 [RIGHT OF DETAINER.] 
  1.9      A lien and right of detainer exists for: 
  1.10     (1) Transporting property from one place to another but not 
  1.11  as a carrier under article 7 of the Uniform Commercial Code; 
  1.12     (2) Keeping or storing property as a bailee but not as a 
  1.13  warehouse operator under article 7 of the Uniform Commercial 
  1.14  Code; 
  1.15     (3) Keeping, feeding, pasturing, or otherwise caring for 
  1.16  domestic animals or other beasts, including medical or surgical 
  1.17  treatment and shoeing; 
  1.18     (4) The use and storage of molds and patterns in the 
  1.19  possession of the fabricator belonging to the customer for the 
  1.20  balance due from the customer for fabrication work; 
  1.21     (5) Making, altering or repairing any article, or expending 
  1.22  any labor, skill or material on it; 
  1.23     (6) Reasonable charges for a vehicle rented as a 
  1.24  replacement for a vehicle serviced or repaired and being 
  1.25  retained as provided by this section. 
  2.1      The liens embrace all lawful charges against the property 
  2.2   paid to any other person by the person claiming the lien, and 
  2.3   the price or value of the care, storage or contribution and all 
  2.4   reasonable disbursements occasioned by the detention or sale of 
  2.5   the property.
