  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to motor carriers; appropriating money to the 
  1.3             commissioner of transportation for grants to motor 
  1.4             carriers for tourism promotion and "no-zone" public 
  1.5             information and education. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [TRUCK SAFETY PUBLIC INFORMATION PILOT 
  1.8   PROGRAM.] 
  1.9      $250,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.10  commissioner of transportation.  The commissioner shall spend 
  1.11  this appropriation as grants to motor carriers for (1) vehicle 
  1.12  signage to promote Minnesota tourism, and (2) "no-zone" public 
  1.13  information and education, including vehicle signage, to 
  1.14  increase public understanding and awareness of danger areas 
  1.15  around trucks and buses where crashes are most likely to occur.  
  1.16  This appropriation is available until spent.  This appropriation 
  1.17  may not be added to the agency's budget base. 
  1.18     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.19     Section 1 is effective July 1, 1999.
