A bill for an act
relating to veterans; proposing an amendment to the
Minnesota Constitution, article XIII, section 8, to
authorize general obligation bonding proceeds to be
used to pay a bonus to Minnesota residents who served
as members of the United States military during the
Global War on Terrorism.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT PROPOSED.


new text begin An amendment to the Minnesota Constitution, article XIII,
section 8, is proposed to the people. If the amendment is
adopted, the section will read:

Sec. 8.

The state may pay an adjusted compensation to
persons who served in the armed forces of the United States
during the period of the deleted text begin Vietnam conflict or the Persian Gulf
War
deleted text end new text begin Global War on Terrorismnew text end . Whenever authorized and in the
amounts and on the terms fixed by law, the state may expend
monies and pledge the public credit to provide money for the
purposes of this section. The duration of the deleted text begin Vietnam conflict
and the Persian Gulf War

by law.

Sec. 2.

SUBMISSION TO VOTERS.

the 2006 general election. The question submitted shall be:

payment of bonuses to veterans of the Global War on Terrorism.
