A bill for an act
relating to local government; providing that
appointees to advisory boards may be under 21;
proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes,
chapter 471.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin [471.461] APPOINTEES TO ADVISORY BOARDS; AGE
QUALIFICATIONS.

new text begin The governing body or a subordinate authority of a
statutory or home rule charter city, county, or township,
including both the town board and the annual town meeting, may
appoint one person between 16 and 21 years of age to serve on
any advisory board it establishes. The governing body or
subordinate authority must not appoint more than one person
between 16 and 21 years of age unless there are other open
positions and no other interested and qualified candidates.
This section does not apply to youth advisory boards or
commissions.
