  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; authorizing independent school 
  1.3             district No. 535, Rochester, to begin the school year 
  1.4             on any date as set by the school district. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 535, 
  1.7   ROCHESTER; SCHOOL YEAR START DATE.] 
  1.8      Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 120A.40, and 
  1.9   any law to the contrary, for the 2003-2004 school year and 
  1.10  later, independent school district No. 535, Rochester, may begin 
  1.11  its school year on any date before Labor Day. 
  1.12     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective the day 
  1.13  following final enactment.
