  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to criminal justice; granting postal 
  1.3             inspectors state arrest authority and indemnification 
  1.4             under certain circumstances; amending Minnesota 
  1.5             Statutes 2002, section 626.77, subdivision 3. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 626.77, 
  1.8   subdivision 3, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 3.  [DEFINITION.] As used in this section, "federal 
  1.10  law enforcement officer" means an officer or employee whether 
  1.11  employed inside or outside the state of the Federal Bureau of 
  1.12  Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the United 
  1.13  States Marshal Service, the Secret Service, the Bureau of 
  1.14  Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, the United States Postal 
  1.15  Inspection Service, or the Immigration and Naturalization 
  1.16  Service, who is responsible for the prevention or detection of 
  1.17  crimes or for the enforcement of the United States Code and who 
  1.18  is authorized to arrest, with or without a warrant, any 
  1.19  individual for a violation of the United States Code. 
  1.20     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective the day 
  1.21  following final enactment.
