  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to public safety; requiring biennial 
  1.3             reporting on undercover buy fund and witness and 
  1.4             victim protection fund; amending Minnesota Statutes 
  1.5             1994, section 299C.065, subdivisions 3 and 3a. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 299C.065, 
  1.8   subdivision 3, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 3.  [INVESTIGATION REPORT.] A report shall be made to 
  1.10  the commissioner at the conclusion of an investigation for which 
  1.11  a grant was made under subdivision 1 stating:  (1) the number of 
  1.12  persons arrested, (2) the nature of charges filed against them, 
  1.13  (3) the nature and value of controlled substances or contraband 
  1.14  purchased or seized, (4) the amount of money paid to informants 
  1.15  during the investigation, and (5) a separate accounting of the 
  1.16  amount of money spent for expenses, other than "buy money", of 
  1.17  bureau and local law enforcement personnel during the 
  1.18  investigation.  The commissioner shall prepare and submit to the 
  1.19  chairs of the committees in the senate and house of 
  1.20  representatives with jurisdiction over criminal justice policy 
  1.21  by January 1 of each even-numbered year a report of 
  1.22  investigations receiving grants under subdivision 1.  
  1.23     Sec. 2.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 299C.065, 
  1.24  subdivision 3a, is amended to read: 
  1.25     Subd. 3a.  [ACCOUNTING REPORT.] The head of a law 
  2.1   enforcement agency that receives a grant under subdivision 1a 
  2.2   shall file a report with the commissioner at the conclusion of 
  2.3   the case detailing the specific purposes for which the money was 
  2.4   spent.  The commissioner shall prepare and submit to the chairs 
  2.5   of the committees in the senate and house of representatives 
  2.6   with jurisdiction over criminal justice policy by January 1 of 
  2.7   each even-numbered year a summary report of witness assistance 
  2.8   services provided under this section.
