  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; providing for an alternative 
  1.3             facilities design grant; appropriating money. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [ALTERNATIVE FACILITIES DESIGN GRANT.] 
  1.6      $3,000,000 is appropriated in fiscal year 2000 from the 
  1.7   general fund to the commissioner of children, families, and 
  1.8   learning for an alternative facilities design grant to a school 
  1.9   district for the purpose of constructing a new school using 
  1.10  monolithic dome construction techniques.  The commissioner shall 
  1.11  award a grant to a school district for the purpose of 
  1.12  demonstrating that a school constructed using monolithic dome 
  1.13  construction techniques can provide operating and construction 
  1.14  savings for school districts throughout the state.  The school 
  1.15  district shall agree to provide the state with information and 
  1.16  data about the potential benefits of this construction method.  
  1.17  The school district shall provide the state with an analysis of 
  1.18  a monolithic dome as a suitable educational environment. 
  1.19     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.20     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
