  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to human services; extending ombudsman 
  1.3             services to fully serve children in coordinating 
  1.4             common goals between the social service and education 
  1.5             systems; amending Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 
  1.6             245.91, subdivision 2. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 245.91, 
  1.9   subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 2.  [AGENCY.] "Agency" means the divisions, 
  1.11  officials, or employees of the state departments of human 
  1.12  services and, health, children, families, and learning, and of 
  1.13  local school districts and designated county social service 
  1.14  agencies as defined in section 256G.02, subdivision 7, that are 
  1.15  engaged in monitoring, providing, or regulating services or 
  1.16  treatment for mental illness, mental retardation or a related 
  1.17  condition, chemical dependency, or emotional disturbance. 
  1.18     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.19     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
