  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to elections; authorizing procedures for 
  1.3             dissolution of election districts and election of 
  1.4             school board members on an at-large basis in certain 
  1.5             school districts; amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, 
  1.6             section 205A.12, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 205A.12, is 
  1.9   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 7.  [REVERSION TO AT-LARGE ELECTIONS.] The school 
  1.11  board of a school district which has previously established 
  1.12  election districts may submit to the voters at any election the 
  1.13  question of whether the election districts should be dissolved 
  1.14  and whether the school board members should instead be elected 
  1.15  on an at-large basis.  However, in school districts where 
  1.16  election districts were originally established by their 
  1.17  inclusion in a petition or resolution for consolidation under 
  1.18  section 122.23 or a cooperation and combination plan under 
  1.19  section 122.241, the school board may approve by resolution the 
  1.20  dissolution of the election districts and the at-large election 
  1.21  of school board members.
