  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to state trails; authorizing extension of the 
  1.3             Blufflands Trail System in Winona county; amending 
  1.4             Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 85.015, subdivision 7.
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 85.015, 
  1.7   subdivision 7, is amended to read: 
  1.8      Subd. 7.  [BLUFFLANDS TRAIL SYSTEM, FILLMORE AND HOUSTON 
  1.9   COUNTIES.] (a) The Root River trail shall originate at Chatfield 
  1.10  in Fillmore county, and thence extend easterly in the Root river 
  1.11  valley to the intersection of the river with Minnesota trunk 
  1.12  highway No. 26 in Houston county, and extend to the Mississippi 
  1.13  river.  
  1.14     (b) Additional trails shall be established that extend the 
  1.15  Blufflands Trail System to include La Crescent, Hokah, 
  1.16  Caledonia, and Spring Grove in Houston county and; Preston, 
  1.17  Harmony, Fountain, Wykoff, Spring Valley, Mabel, Canton, and 
  1.18  Ostrander in Fillmore county; and Winona, Minnesota City, 
  1.19  Rollingstone, Altura, Lewiston, Utica, St. Charles, and Elba in 
  1.20  Winona county.  In addition to the criteria in section 86A.05, 
  1.21  subdivision 4, these trails must utilize abandoned railroad 
  1.22  rights-of-way where possible. 
  1.23     (c) The trails shall be developed primarily for 
  1.24  nonmotorized riding and hiking.
