  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to the environment; exempting newer motor 
  1.3             vehicles from annual air pollution emissions 
  1.4             inspections; amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 
  1.5             116.61, subdivision 2.  
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 116.61, 
  1.8   subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 2.  [EXEMPT VEHICLES.] The following motor vehicles 
  1.10  are exempt from the requirements of this section: 
  1.11     (1) a motor vehicle manufactured before the 1976 model year 
  1.12  or with an engine manufactured before the 1976 model year; 
  1.13     (2) a motor vehicle registered as classic, pioneer, 
  1.14  collector, or street rod under section 168.10; 
  1.15     (3) a motor vehicle that is exempted in accordance with 
  1.16  rules of the agency because the vehicle, although registered to 
  1.17  an owner residing in the metropolitan area, is customarily 
  1.18  domiciled outside of the metropolitan area; and 
  1.19     (4) any class of motor vehicle that is exempted by rule of 
  1.20  the agency because the vehicles present prohibitive inspection 
  1.21  problems or are inappropriate for inspection; and 
  1.22     (5) a motor vehicle four model years old or newer at the 
  1.23  time of registration. 
  1.24     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.25     Section 1 is effective July 1, 1995.
