  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to game and fish; creating a committee to 
  1.3             manage fishing on Mille Lacs lake; providing 
  1.4             appointments; proposing coding for new law in 
  1.5             Minnesota Statutes, chapter 97C. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [97C.417] [MILLE LACS MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE.] 
  1.8      Subdivision 1.  [CREATION.] A committee of eight members is 
  1.9   established to create a management system that will prescribe 
  1.10  fishing regulations for Mille Lacs lake.  The committee shall 
  1.11  consist of two members of the house of representatives appointed 
  1.12  by the speaker of the house of representatives, two members of 
  1.13  the senate appointed by the subcommittee on committees of the 
  1.14  senate committee on rules and administration, two native 
  1.15  Americans appointed by the Indian Affairs Council, the 
  1.16  commissioner of natural resources or a representative, and the 
  1.17  director of fisheries for the department of natural resources.  
  1.18     Subd. 2.  [DUTIES.] The committee must establish annual 
  1.19  harvest limits and fishing regulations for Mille Lacs lake. 
  1.20     Subd. 3.  [EXISTING LAW.] The committee, in performing its 
  1.21  duties, must abide by existing law as expressed in state 
  1.22  statutes and federal treaties. 
  1.23     Subd. 4.  [ADMINISTRATION.] The committee chair must be 
  1.24  appointed by the members.  Membership terms, compensation, and 
  1.25  vacancies are governed by section 15.0575.  Notwithstanding 
  2.1   section 15.0575, subdivision 5, the committee does not expire.
