  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to corrections; imposing criminal penalties 
  1.3             for probationers and parolees from other states who 
  1.4             reside in Minnesota without permission under the 
  1.5             interstate compact; proposing coding for new law in 
  1.6             Minnesota Statutes, chapter 243. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [243.161] [RESIDING IN MINNESOTA WITHOUT 
  1.9   PERMISSION UNDER INTERSTATE COMPACT; PENALTY.] 
  1.10     Any person who is on parole or probation in another state 
  1.11  who resides in this state without first having been accepted for 
  1.12  supervision under section 243.16, may be sentenced to 
  1.13  imprisonment for not more than five years or to payment of a 
  1.14  fine of not more than $10,000, or both. 
  1.15     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.16     Section 1 is effective August 1, 1997, and applies to 
  1.17  crimes committed on or after that date.
