  1.1                             A resolution
  1.2             memorializing the Governor to proclaim June 9, 2005, 
  1.3             as National Black Philanthropy Day in the State of 
  1.4             Minnesota. 
  1.5      
  1.6      WHEREAS, African Americans possess a history of community, 
  1.7   civic, responsibility, and philanthropy that has provided myriad 
  1.8   benefits, and will continue to provide benefits, enhancing our 
  1.9   state, region, and nation; and 
  1.10     WHEREAS, we welcome the many committed individuals from 
  1.11  throughout the United States who will gather in Minneapolis to 
  1.12  explore Black Philanthropy and each individual's role in 
  1.13  increasing its outreach and its impact; and 
  1.14     WHEREAS, the Fifth National Conference on Black 
  1.15  Philanthropy, June 8-11, 2005, assists our entire community to 
  1.16  live up to "Building a Future Worthy of Our Past" through its 
  1.17  productive seminars and programming, helping individuals and 
  1.18  organizations from near and far to experience the reciprocal 
  1.19  benefits of philanthropy; and 
  1.20     WHEREAS, the State of Minnesota recognizes the importance 
  1.21  of Black Philanthropy to health, well-being, and vibrancy of our 
  1.22  community and acknowledges the myriad benefits the Fifth 
  1.23  National Conference on Black Philanthropy brings to our state; 
  1.24  NOW, THEREFORE, 
  1.25     BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislature of the State of Minnesota 
  2.1   that it memorializes the Governor of the State of Minnesota, to 
  2.2   proclaim June 9, 2005, as National Black Philanthropy Day in the 
  2.3   State of Minnesota. 
  2.4      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of State of the 
  2.5   State of Minnesota is directed to prepare copies of this 
  2.6   memorial and transmit them to Governor Tim Pawlenty, Governor of 
  2.7   the State of Minnesota.
