A bill for an act
relating to public safety; allowing certain employees to purchase their surplus
badges; amending Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 299D.03, by adding a
subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 299D.03, is amended by adding a subdivision
to read:

new text begin (a) Notwithstanding section 15.054 or 16B.2975, the
commissioner may sell a surplus badge used by a state trooper, commercial vehicle inspector,
or Capitol security officer, to the person to whom the badge had been issued when the person
was initially hired or during the course of the person's employment. The person may be
currently employed or retired. The sale price must be the fair market value determined by
the commissioner.

new text begin (b) For purposes of this section, "surplus badge" means a badge that bears any seal before
May 11, 2024, or the badge of a person who is retired bearing any seal.
