                        CHAPTER 178-S.F.No. 1347
           An act relating to natural resources; authorizing the 
          commissioner of natural resources to sell certain 
          lands in Koochiching county. 
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
    Section 1.  [CONVEYANCE OF STATE LAND; KOOCHICHING COUNTY.] 
    Subdivision 1.  [AUTHORIZATION.] Notwithstanding any law, 
the commissioner of natural resources may offer for sale and 
sell the land described in subdivision 3, in the manner provided 
for the sale of other trust fund lands, except that the value of 
the improvements on the land shall be appraised separately.  The 
conveyance must be in a form approved by the attorney general.  
    Subd. 2.  [CONDITIONS OF SALE.] (a) If Carl Larsen, the 
owner of the adjoining property, is the purchaser of the land at 
the sale, he shall not be required to pay for the improvements 
upon furnishing an affidavit showing that the improvements were 
paid by him. 
    (b) If a person other than Carl Larsen purchases the land, 
the purchaser shall pay in cash to the state at the time of 
sale, in addition to all required payments, the full amount for 
which improvements are appraised.  The amount received by the 
state for the improvements shall be paid by the state treasurer, 
with the approval of the commissioner of finance, to Carl Larsen 
or his successor in interest as compensation for the 
improvements.  The money required for the payment is 
appropriated for this purpose. 
    Subd. 3.  [LAND DESCRIPTION.] The commissioner may offer 
for sale and sell the land described as:  the west 140 feet of 
government lot five and that part of the NW 1/4 SE 1/4 lying 
northerly and easterly of the easterly right-of-way line of 
state highway number 6 of section seven, Township sixty-five 
north, range twenty-six west, in Koochiching county containing 
5.5 acres, more or less. 
    Subd. 4.  [REASON FOR SALE.] A mink ranch was inadvertently 
built on this state property in 1957 and has been owned, 
occupied, and improved since it was built. 
    Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
    Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
