A bill for an act
relating to public safety; appropriating money to develop digital geographic
information system mapping data for certain school facilities.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

SCHOOL FACILITIES; APPROPRIATION.

new text begin $6,000,000 in fiscal year 2025 is appropriated from the state government special revenue
fund for 911 emergency telecommunications services to the commissioner of public safety
to issue grants to the seven regional emergency communications boards in the state. If
awarded a grant, a regional communications board must use the grant funds exclusively to
create digital geographic information system mapping data of facilities managed by a school
district; charter school; intermediate school district or cooperative unit under Minnesota
Statutes, section 123A.24, subdivision 2; the Perpich Center for Arts Education; the
Minnesota State Academies; or a Tribal contract school that serves children in early childhood
or prekindergarten programs or students enrolled in kindergarten through grade 12 within
the regional emergency communications board's jurisdiction. The data must be compatible
with the National Emergency Number Association's latest Civic Location Data Exchange
Format Standard. Each regional communication board must complete the mapping project
and report completion to the commissioner on or before July 1, 2026. Upon request, the
commissioner may grant a reasonable extension of time to the requesting regional
communication board to complete the project. This is a onetime appropriation.
